UW School of Drama Mythology Project Solo Performance
In quarter one of the Professional Actor Training Program (PATP) at UW, we were given a mythology project assignment by our voice professor. I was like, what kind of story do I want to tell? I knew I wanted to do something with indigenous roots. Honestly, what sparked inspiration were a pair of Quetzalcoatl earrings I got from Ana Marina Studio and the play Espíritu Natural which I performed in last year at Su Teatro. I decided to tell the story of the 5 Suns which included both inspiration from Aztec and Mayan mythologies. This project is one that I hope to expand on in the future but was such a lovely experience to share with my cohort and UW professors and students.
Fifth Sun received it’s first public performance December 15, 2024 in Denver, CO
WE ARE THE FIFTH SUN is a solo performance through creation and destruction. Hosted by Tonantzin Casa de Café, Adriana’s play is an evocative, ceremonial retelling of the Aztec myth of the Five Suns—a story of creation, destruction, and rebirth. This performance weaves together narrative, music, and physical theater, emphasizing the cycles of life, death and sacrifice leading us to our current sun.
